Why you change so much of the characters?
I didn't really change a whole lot of characters. Just made them to fit the world I set them in. Like many people do when making an adaptation of say a comic book or novel. You have to change some things, including some of the characters to fit. When you think of it, most of Jhonen's characters aren't the most developed but they're interesting, which is why I wanted to write about them. I wanted to see what if these characters had more depth to them?
For characters like Eric and Magnus, it was to simply make them likable. Their concepts, a vampire mentor and his pupil, a kid that wants to be a vampire was just all the more interesting. The personalities suck but of course for comedic purposes. This series is a bit more drama based than comedy.
K but why you pick Eric as one of the "knights"? He was a jerk to Devi!
That's why I made him the opposite of what he is in the comic. I found Eric to be rather interesting in concept of being a boy who wanted to be a vampire. When my boyfriend first introduced me to Eric in the JTHM series, I found it quite interesting being I never heard of someone wanting to be a vampire before. (This was before the stupid "Twilight" when wanting to become a vampire was considered "weird" and not a mainstream thing.) In fact, this is where I got my idea for my original character "Rosario" for my original novel "Peace of the Rose"
I just wanted to do my own AU of them for this world. I didn't want to just do an all girl team, but I wanted Johnny to be the villain. Eric was the only one left and well, I really do like Eric's concept and design. The personality was only changed so he'd be more likable and relatable for this story. That and to make Devi and Tenna acceptable with him. They wouldn't accept him if he was a jerk.
I also needed someone Devi and Tenna's age to be one of the knights. Edgar seems to be much older and Johnny I had chosen to be one of the main antagonists. Eric fit the bill right then and there because he is Devi's age (at least if he had lived). All that was needed was an attitude adjustment.
How can Eric make his own smoke bombs?
Answer: Youtube and paying attention in chemistry class. Don't think that's possible? An 8 year old kid once drove his sister to Mc. Donald's without crashing into anything, by watching youtube videos very carefully. Google that shit. It's true! If you have common sense and pay close attention to the videos, you can learn to do anything these days!
There seems to be a mix up in time. Devi didn't start becoming a hermit until after Johnny tried to kill her, but here she seems to be kind of a hermit already.
That's because she witnessed Eric "dying". In the original comic, she naturally couldn't have cared less if Eric died, because of how he is in the comics. This AU has a bit more logic than the comics. (Least enough to keep it grounded with it's own rules of reality.) So naturally, witnessing someone "dying" in her arms would have scarred her.
Shouldn't Eric have found Devi easily with his wings and such before the story?
This I understand now, but at the time I didn't think much of it. It could be like the case of "An American Tale", how the main character is always within arms reach of his family but they just don't look in the right direction. Eric could have possibly just missed Devi when she was near by and they just didn't see each other. Or she went into therapy right away and there just wasn't away to get to her. Either way, it's just one of those things you just gotta go along with.
How come some cuss words are censored here? Johnny was made for adult readers.
I haven't fixed that yet. At the time I first wrote this, I was a no cuss word person. Now I don't care as much. I'm gonna fix that in time. However, when the Dough Boys cuss, it's censored more so for hilarity issues and that I don't give a shit what non sense cussing they're doing. (Put it short, I'm lazy.)
Wheres Tess (or insert whatever Jhonen character here)?
I mainly wanted to use the characters that I feel could benefit the story. Tess is okay, but I didn't find her interesting enough. If I do a sequel series, I may add her in but the most part I couldn't find a place for her in this. Same with any other character that is cut out from this AU.
It's mainly just Jhonen's main cast including Jimmy, Anne, Edgar and the Dough Boys.
